Production in Italy
Ciccolella: grower of roses and anthuriums
Ciccolella is an important grower of roses and anthuriums. Our products are well-known for their quality and beauty.
In Italy, the family-run company has been cultivating a large assortment of roses since the 1970s in the greenhouses of the southern Italian province of Bari. Production of anthuriums was added in 2000. During the last decade the production areas have been expanded to two new sites in the close provinces of Foggia and Potenza, thus consolidating the roots of Ciccolella growing activities in the South of Italy.
At this moment, Ciccolella has more than 100 hectares of greenhouses and cultivates 45 different varieties of roses and 63 varieties of anthuriums. Ciccolella’s Dutch trade organisation brings the products to market. This includes export companies Top Flora, Sierex, Diskoflora, Disva, Disva Garden Center Plants and Zurel.
Within a short period of time, the family of growers managed to build a company a company that employs more than 1000 people in Italy, The Netherlands, UK and Germany. Ciccolella has become the number one publicly traded company in the flower and plant sector.
Sustainable Italian production locations
The greenhouses are located in Candela in Melfi and Molfetta, all located in the South of Italy, in the regions of Puglia and Basilicata, with a total extension of more than 100 hectares, with additional investments planned to further increase their dimension. This makes it the largest greenhouse complex in Europe – with the anthurium greenhouse complex even being the biggest in the world.
Trade in the Netherlands
Sales and distribution of flowers and plants are centralised in the Netherlands, where Ciccolella acquired the Dutch companies Top Flora, Sierex, Diskoflora, Disva, Disva Garden Center Plants and Zurel. These are all specialised companies that have deep roots in the Dutch ornamental plant sector and a combined total of over 100 years of experience and expertise.
Ciccolella’s “internationalisation process” began in 2006 with the acquisition of Zurel, one of the biggest players in Europe in the plant and flower trade. In 2007, Ciccolella acquired the Leliveld Group B.V (Top Flora and Sierex) and Flower Plant Partners B.V. (Disva, Disva GCP, Diskoflora), leaders in the retail market and wholesale market.
These important acquisitions of very specialised Dutch companies in the sale and distribution of flowers and plants in Europe helped create an integrated ornamental plant cultivation company which is active across the entire chain: Ciccolella Holding International B.V., the trade company in Nederland. Ciccolella Holding international BV is a part of the publicly traded Ciccolella S.p.A. The integration of the companies in the Ciccolella Group combines many years of experience and expertise. With more than 100 years of experience, knowledge and professionalism we are progressing into a future of growth.
